LET’S CHAT ABOUT COOKIE ARTISTRY.
So you think all cookies are created equal, except for your grandma’s. I get that. I want you to feel like you’re getting a fair trade for your donation. Here’s what it takes to make a decorated cookie, in terms of a typical 2 dozen set for me:
1-2 hours of design. This excludes time spent thinking in the grocery store aisles, soccer sidelines, emergency room hallways, and while cooking dinner.
2-3 hours of making dough, freezing dough, cutting/handcutting shapes, refreezing shapes, baking, cooling, and cleaning so my hubs doesn’t fuss at the mess.
2-3 hours of making fresh icing, dying and mixing each color, making three icing consistencies per color, and cleaning so only my hands are left stained.
6-10 hours (oh that I was kidding) to decorate depending on the complexity of the design. Turns out I haven’t figured out simple yet.
1 hour running to the grocery store to grab what supply I inevitably forgot or panicking when I think I’ve created something ugly.
0.5 hours taking photos/movies for posterity
0.5 hours packaging
